It’s probably mostly for the VIN plates, kind of like how a completely rusted away VW bus can still be worth money if it has 23 windows. Because people take the VIN plates and put them on a not-rusted, not-23 window bus that has the extra windows cut into the roof.

not sure if your sarcasm is in the vague description or the high price. or both?
i spent months wading through $300-$400/side headlight assemblies for a 25yo car until finally a reasonably priced one showed up. tail lights are about the same:
